【Masumi x Souhomare】A Feast of Two Great Sake Brands! A Blissful Moment at Torarenbo Yaesu

Sake bar, Restaurant

Hello everyone! This is Ai, a sake-loving blogger ✨

The other day, I attended the “Masumi and Souhomare Sake Brewery Explanation Meeting” held at Torarenbo Yaesu! A dream collaboration between two major sake brands that any sake lover would know: “Masumi” from Nagano and “Souhomare” from Tochigi. Being able to compare eight types of sake while listening to the brewers’ explanations was truly a heavenly time for sake lovers.

So Popular It Was Booked Immediately! Cheers with Sake-Loving Friends

I received information about this event from Torarenbo, where I had a sake meeting in January, via LINE, and I booked it right away! I hadn’t decided who to invite yet, but I found myself securing seats for four people (laughs).

No wonder, it was a very popular event that was fully booked the next day!

After thinking about who to invite, I invited three friends who love sake, and headed to Torarenbo Yaesu. Despite the slightly early start time of 6 pm, everyone readily agreed to participate.

The Venue Was Full of Sake Fans!

When I entered the restaurant, the venue was full of sake fans! Most of the other attendees were older, so I was a bit nervous. However, as the meeting started with greetings from the manager, Masumi Miyasaka Brewery, and Souhomare, my nervousness quickly disappeared with delicious sake in front of me!

Masumi and Souhomare, a Lineup of Jewels

The lineup for this tasting included a total of eight types: four from Masumi and four from Souhomare.

Masumi

Masumi Junmai Ginjo Usunigori (Active)

Masumi Junmai Ginjo Shikkoku KURO

MIYASAKA Junmai Ginjo Aiyama

MIYASAKA Junmai Ginjo Miyamanishiki Shiboritate

Souhomare

Souhomare New Junmai

Souhomare Kimoto Special Junmai Sake

Souhomare Kimoto Brewed Junmai Daiginjo Raw Sake

Souhomare Junmai Daiginjo Gohyakumangoku Raw Sake

One of the attractions of this meeting was being able to freely ask the brewers questions like, “Which one would go well with a strawberry dish?” They carefully explained the characteristics of each sake and recommended ways to drink it, deepening my knowledge of sake even further ✨

My Favorite Is…

Among all eight types, my favorite was “Souhomare Kimoto Brewed Junmai Daiginjo Raw Sake.” The gorgeous aroma unique to Daiginjo and the deep flavor unique to Kimoto brewing captivated me from the first sip.

It goes without saying that I asked for a refill (laughs).

Exquisite Dishes That Delight Both the Eyes and the Palate

At this meeting, not only the sake but also the dishes were wonderful!

Three Hours Flew By!

The delicious sake, dishes, and conversation with fellow sake lovers were so much fun that three hours flew by in no time. At the end, there was a surprise from the chef, with the appearance of apple pizza and crab kanpyo rolls! They entertained us until the very end.

Such a wonderful sake meeting is truly a precious experience.

The next event is scheduled for June, so I’m already looking forward to it! I wonder which brewery’s sake we’ll be able to drink next time?

Sake lovers, Torarenbo’s sake meetings are definitely not to be missed! Please come and join us.
