recently went to “COEDO BREWERY THE RESTAURANT” in Kawagoe with my family to celebrate my awesome mom’s birthday. It’s a place I’ve been to a few times and really like, so this time I booked ahead so we could have a nice, relaxed lunch.

“COEDO BREWERY THE RESTAURANT” is a restaurant by the “Coedo Brewery,” a craft beer place in Kawagoe. What’s cool is they have super fresh COEDO beer on tap, straight from their own brewery right next door! The food is like a Chinese style, but they use lots of yummy local stuff and organic veggies that Coedo started with. Everything on the menu goes great with their beer.

A Casual Course That Delights All Your Senses
We went for the casual lunch course, and every dish was so well-made and looked beautiful. Seeing everyone in my family smile as each plate came out made me so happy.

-Appetizer- Dreamy Caesar Salad
Lots of fresh veggies with a nice crisp texture. The rich dressing really gets your appetite going.

-Dim Sum- Sichuan-Style Sesame Water Dumplings / Steamed Buns
The Sichuan-style sesame water dumplings were a real standout. The rich, thick, and slightly sweet sesame sauce is just amazing! It goes perfectly with the chewy dumplings, but honestly, dipping the steamed buns in that sauce is something else. You could say the buns are there just for the sauce!

-Side Dish- Shrimp and Mussels Steamed in COEDO Beer
The moment it arrived, the wonderful smell of the sea just hit you! The shrimp and mussels really made the soup so flavorful, I couldn’t help but say “Delicious!” If I were to pair this with sake, I’d probably go for a crisp, dry Junmai. Just imagining it makes me happy!

-Main Dish- Golden Pork Kakuni (Braised Pork Belly)
The kakuni was so incredibly tender, my chopsticks just went right through it! You could tell it had been simmered really carefully for a long time. It practically melted in my mouth, with a lovely sweetness from the pork. This would be perfect with a slightly sweeter Junmai Ginjo sake, enjoyed slowly.

-Meal- Salted Chicken Soba Noodles
For the end, we had light salted chicken soba noodles. The gentle flavor was just right to fill you up.

-Dessert- Mini Dessert
The dessert after the meal was a cute little treat. It was a delicious way to finish everything off.
Discovering a Seasonal Craft Beer
Of course, I also enjoyed the COEDO beer! The one I had that day was the seasonal “Kourin.”
From the moment it was poured, a fresh and bright apple scent filled the air. When I took a sip, I could taste the fruity flavor with a solid beer base underneath. Apparently, they use “Mayball” apples from Nagano Prefecture, which are processed using a special technology from Shinshu University to get an apple extract. This special method gives the beer a refreshing tartness and fruity flavor that you wouldn’t get just from malt, hops, and yeast.

Since it was lunchtime, I reluctantly stopped at just one beer, but I would have loved to try more pairings with the food.
My mom seemed to have a wonderful birthday, surrounded by delicious food and the warm smiles of her family. It really reminded me how happy I am when I can share good food with the people I love.
If you’re ever in Kawagoe, I highly recommend checking out “COEDO BREWERY THE RESTAURANT.” You’re sure to have a memorable time with their delicious food, amazing beer, and cozy atmosphere.
