Hi everyone! It’s Blogger Eye from “Sake Days: A Blog to Enjoy Japanese Sake Moments that Color Everyday Life.”
Recently, my company achieved some great results thanks to everyone’s hard work, and we got a bonus! 🎉 We decided to celebrate in style and do something a little special – so we went on a yakatabune party cruise!
For those who aren’t familiar, a yakatabune is a traditional Japanese-style boat that is often used for evening parties or dinner cruises. 1 Imagine a beautifully decorated boat where you can enjoy food, drinks, and amazing views of the city from the water. It’s a really unique and fun experience!

My first time on a yakatabune! It felt like a sophisticated adult way to enjoy the evening, something you see in dramas. I was so excited! ✨
We met up near Hamamatsucho Station, about a 5-minute walk away. The boat departed from what looked like a canal under the expressway – I was surprised a yakatabune would leave from a place like that!

When I got on board, I was surprised by how spacious it was inside! 😳 I had imagined a tatami mat room with low tables, like a kotatsu, where we’d eat and drink. But it was actually set up with chairs and tables, and the ceiling was quite high.

The food included things like roast beef, but the main dish was freshly fried tempura! 🍤 The hot and crispy tempura was absolutely delicious! …To be honest, the other food was just okay, nothing too special. (lol)

As for drinks, it was all-you-can-drink! The fridge was stocked with bottled beer and soda that we could help ourselves to. There were also bottles of whiskey, shochu, and sake available for self-service. 🍶

I wasn’t feeling my best that day, so I kept my alcohol intake pretty light. And the sake that was available didn’t have any specific labels, so I decided to just enjoy the scenery and the atmosphere this time.

I think the point of a yakatabune cruise isn’t so much about savoring amazing food and drinks, but more about enjoying the night view of Tokyo Bay, the glittering city buildings, and the Rainbow Bridge with everyone. 🌉✨ In that sense, I definitely had a great time! It was a warm evening at the end of March, so the night breeze from Tokyo Bay felt really nice.
It was a special time to spend with my colleagues in such a unique setting, and I’m really grateful for that. Have any of you ever been on a yakatabune? If you’re looking for a memorable night out in Japan, I highly recommend it! 😊
